Reselling Trapstar on Depop: 10 SHOCKING Real Examples

What is a reseller?

Simply put, a reseller buys an item at a retail price and sells it at a greater price for profit. Basic Capitalism 101, really. Products in high demand with limited supplies are prime targets for resellers and these products range across different markets, from trading cards to fashion to gaming.

American brands like Jordan and Supreme have embraced resell culture, both being known to attract extensive queues of committed customers, anxious to get their hands on an exclusive item. Online drops often sellout within seconds or require you to raffle for the opportunity to buy an item.

Trapstar x Depop

In the UK, Trapstar London is the fashion brand that has dominated the resell game when it comes to British street fashion. Trapstar tends to drop new items every few weeks, offering a number of highly demanded pieces that sell out within minutes of being released. I personally started reselling Trapstar London clothing in February of 2021 on my Depop account (7IGURES) which was geared towards deadstock UK streetwear and preloved name brand items.

Keep in mind, I haven't advertised/promoted any of my Depop listings to date. I literally just buy the item, list it on Depop, then wait. Here are ten real life examples.

Potential Improvements: Seller

In hindsight, there is definitely room for improvement. For instance, promoting your Depop account on social media or with ads would drive more traffic to your store and in theory shorten the amount of time it takes to sell each item. Also, selling on your own website will allow you to bypass the steep Depop fees and potentially the transaction fees from Paypal and Stripe. Another note, I mainly post items with Royal Mail, however there are other companies such as Evri and Yodel that pride themselves on more affordable postage. Lower shipping costs equal a higher profit margin.

On the other hand, promoting and maintaining an ecommerce platform full time costs time, money and energy. Some people are not trying to launch a whole business. They simply want to buy item, list item and wait for sale. Platforms like Depop, Vinted and Ebay are great for this, with each attracting millions of visitors monthly. The fees charged by these platforms are largely justified by their Buyer's Protection schemes and their ability to expose your item to the appropriate audience, ultimately getting you a sale.

Potential Improvements: Trapstar

Trapstar, as a company, could really improve on shipping times. Furthermore, over the past year there have been periods where Trapstar have flooded the market with new drops, sometimes re-releasing pieces, which in effect cheapens those same pieces when they are sitting on social e-commerce platforms like Depop at a higher price.

Yet to be fair, Trapstar have never officially subscribed to their brand being geared towards resellers and have no obligation to create the circumstances which make their clothing most profitable on the resell market. As for shipping times, Trapstar tend to highlight when an item is a pre-order, clearly stating in the product description when it will begin dispatching. So although some of the wait times are quite lengthy, each customer receives a fair and clear notice.

Conclusion

Reselling Trapstar on Depop is not for everybody. Does reselling Trapstar pay my bills? Not necessarily. But it earns me a higher rate of interest on my money than my local bank offers and allows me to support and promote a brand I am genuinely invested in. It's not for everybody but it works for me.
